Faith (Theological Virtue)

The theological virtue by which the human intellect, moved by the graced will, is rendered capable of assenting to truths (both supernatural and natural) divinely revealed by God.  Insofar as “faith is the substance of things hoped for” (Heb. 11:1), it is the presupposed foundation for the theological virtues of hope and charity (love); insofar as it is the “proof of things not seen” (ibid.), it calls for continuous moral and spiritual purification so that the believer might continuously grow in personal and loving knowledge of the very depths of the Triune God and His saving providential designs (1 Cor. 2:7–16; Col. 1:26–27).
